Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh Review: Quiet West End Stay with Victorian Charm

Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh Review

Our stay at the Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh, also known as Hapimag Resort Edinburgh, placed us in a ground-floor room within one of the property’s elegant Victorian townhouses in the city’s West End. This review reflects our personal experience over a weekend stay and focuses on comfort, atmosphere and overall value.

Room Layout and Comfort

Our accommodation consisted of one large open-plan room with a separate bathroom. The main living area included a dining table and chairs, a sofa and armchair, a small writing desk with chair, and a metal-framed king-size bed, along with a reasonably sized flat-screen TV. The bed was very comfortable and contributed to a restful stay.

One of the most impressive features of the room was its scale and architectural detail. The high ceiling, ornate plasterwork and brass chandeliers added a strong Victorian character, which was carried through the furniture. A mix of freestanding and built-in oak pieces with brass hardware created a traditional, period feel throughout the space.

A large bay window provided a street view, but the raised position above pavement level ensured privacy from passers-by while allowing plenty of natural light. Despite being on the ground floor, the room remained quiet and felt well insulated from outside noise.

Cleanliness and In-Room Facilities

Housekeeping at the Hapimag Stadtresidenz was excellent. Fresh towels were provided daily when requested, and the accommodation remained spotless throughout our stay, meeting our expectations for this type of serviced apartment hotel. Complimentary tea and coffee were available in the room, and the heating was effective, keeping the space warm and comfortable.

Bathroom Experience

The bathroom was generously sized and well designed. It featured a large metal bath, a separate shower cubicle, a Victorian-style sink with chrome fittings, a toilet and a separate bidet. The green Victorian tiles were a standout feature, adding real character, while the large mirror and separate shaving mirror were both practical and well positioned. Bathroom lighting was bright and effective, and complimentary shower gel was provided in the shower.

Hotel Facilities and Location

The Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh is located on a quiet street in the West End, offering a peaceful alternative to the busier parts of the city centre while remaining within walking distance of key attractions. The hotel also features a large snooker room with a full-sized table, which is an unusual and welcome addition.

Just off the reception area is a small self-service room offering snacks and drinks, operating on an honesty system where guests leave payment for advertised prices. This system reflects the residence-style approach of the property rather than a traditional hotel setup.

What We Didn’t Like

Despite the comfort and quality of the room, the stay didn’t feel like a traditional hotel experience. The property felt more like staying in a room within a private house rather than a full-service hotel. There was rarely any staff presence at reception, and the hotel often felt deserted, which resulted in a lack of welcome and overall atmosphere.

Overall Verdict

We did enjoy our stay at the Hapimag Stadtresidenz Edinburgh, and the décor and Victorian style were exactly what we were looking for. However, at over £240 per night, the lack of a clear hotel atmosphere and traditional hotel facilities means we wouldn’t personally return. For travellers seeking a quiet, serviced apartment-style stay in Edinburgh’s West End, this property may suit well, but those who prefer a stronger hotel vibe may find it falls short.
